Demián Bichir is also joining Godzilla vs. Kong. There are currently no details available about his prospective character. Birchir, a Mexico-born actor, is coming off a successful co-starring turn as an embattled priest battling a demonic habit-donning monster in the September horror film, The Nun. It was the latest in a string of high-profile roles in films such as Alien: Covenant, The Hateful Eight, and Lowriders. He’s also fielded TV runs on The Bridge and Weeds.

Godzilla has awoken from his franchise slumber in a big way, if you haven’t noticed. Back in October 2015, Legendary Pictures shifted their King Kong prequel/reboot, Kong: Skull Island, from Universal to Warner Bros. This was no accident, since the Godzilla franchise also lives at Warner Bros. And if there’s anything Hollywood loves more than superheroes these days, it’s shared universes.

Godzilla vs. Kong is setting up monster-on-monster mayhem that recalls the glory days of kaiju conjurors Toho back in the 1960s. This time, the billed battle will take place in the giant monster shared universe of director Gareth Edwards’s 2014 Godzilla movie, Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). – All of these will culminate with the fourth film Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.

The current date represents a push-back of eight months from its previously scheduled release for March 13, 2020. Before that, the film had been scheduled to arrive in May for a Memorial Day weekend drop, from which it ultimately shifted after Universal’s Fast and Furious 9 staked its claim for that weekend.

Godzilla vs. Kong Cast

The film will see several major returning characters from the delightfully warped Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown are returning as protagonists from the first film, Mark and Madison Russell. Given what they go through, they likely will consider themselves Titan experts and ready for what comes next. One character who is just that is Dr. Ilene Chen (Ziyi Zhang), who is also returning for Godzilla vs. Kong.

Alexander Skarsgård has joined the cast of Godzilla vs. Kong as one of its new stars. While details about his character remain closely hidden, a report by Variety claims that he is expected to play “the leader of a military unit.” Skarsgård is coming off the Netflix survival drama, Hold the Dark, drama The Hummingbird Project (debuted at TIFF), sci-fi thriller Mute, and blockbuster reboot The Legend of Tarzan. He also recently won an Emmy and Golden Globe for the first season of Big Little Lies, a series that airs on his former longtime True Blood home, HBO.

Brian Tyree Henry is also in the cast. While no details were revealed about his character, the role will serve as a co-starring turn for Henry, who has seen his backlog packed after a breakthrough (Emmy-nominated) TV performance on FX’s Atlanta. He also fielded recent movie roles in White Boy Rick, Hotel Artemis and – amongst several different future projects – will also appear in the developing reboot of horror classic Child’s Play, set to portray Det. Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon’s character in the 1988 original).

Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) will ride his current wave of momentum for a role in this monstrous mega-movie. Danai Gurira (Black Panther, The Walking Dead) is returning to the project after appearing in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Eiza González of Baby Driver and TV’s From Dusk Till Dawn is also a new undisclosed character, as is Lance Reddick (the John Wick movies), Rebecca Hall (The Prestige, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women), and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist, Game of Thrones).
